Ignasio Malizani Jimu, PhD
Chief Executive Officer

He earned his PhD from the University of Basel (Switzerland), his MA from the University of Botswana, and his Bed from the University of Malaŵi. Dr. Jimu worked with MZUNI for 14 years, where he served as Head of Department on three occasions, as well as Dean of the Faculty of Education. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2009. For a period of one year, Dr. Jimu worked as researcher for the Basel Institute on Governance’s (BIG) International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR) in Switzerland. Dr. Jimu is the author or co-author of several books, book chapters and acclaimed journal articles. He brings to the Council hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of the higher education sector in Malaŵi. He joined NCHE in September 2014.


Dinganie Soko
Corporate Service Manager

Mr. Soko is a Fellow of the Association of the Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He also holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). He has extensive accounting, administration, human resources management and finance management experience gained in the private sector in the energy, construction, mining, logistics and financial services industries. Substantively, Dinganie has worked in Malaŵi and Botswana but he has also worked in South Africa and Zimbabwe on secondments. In addition to his private sector experience, Dinganie also has public sector experience, having headed the funding and finance department at Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority(TEVETA) for six years.


Adamson Thengolose, PhD
Quality Assurance Manager (Academic)

Dr Adamson Thengolose earned his PhD in Environmental Engineering from Chongqing University, China, his Master of Science and Bachelor of Education (Science) from the University of Malaŵi. He joined NCHE in May, 2018 from the University of Malawi – The Polytechnic where he served as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, Head of Department for two terms, and Quality Assurance Director for 4 years. During his time as a Quality Assurance Director, Dr Thengolose facilitated the development quality monitoring and assessment tools for The Polytechnic and University of Malawi standards and guidelines for quality assurance and enhancement. He brings to NCHE an in-depth knowledge and experience of quality assurance in the higher education sector in Malawi.


Ambumulire Phiri, PhD
Quality Assurance Manager (Operations)

Dr. Ambumulire Phiri received her PhD in Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, an MA in Teaching Studies from Belhaven University in Jackson Mississippi, a Graduate Certificate in Autism and Developmental Disabilities from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and a BA with an emphasis in Christian Education from the African Bible College in Malawi. Dr. Phiri has served the public higher education system for over 17 years. She spent a major part of her teaching career at Mzuzu University where she also served as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education.  She was Principal for Nalikule College of Education from 2016 to 2019. She has contributed a number of scholarly works in teacher education and special and inclusive education.  Her current research employs the quality assurance lens to examine standards for inclusion of students with disabilities in higher education. 


Richmond Chinula
Policy, Reaserch and Planning Manager

Mr. Chinula holds an MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics obtained from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He earned his Bachelor of Social Science (Economics) from the University of Malaŵi. In addition, he has earned a number of certificates in various areas. Over the past twenty years, Richmond has worked in the public sector, non-governmental organisations, United Nations - FAO and the private sector. In the eight years prior to joining NCHE, Richmond was working with Airtel Malaŵi as a Marketing Manager responsible for Revenue Planning, Research and Geo-marketing. He was in the forefront of ensuring that the company acquired and grew its market share and revenue base. He brings to the NCHE experience and a culture of getting things done and making them move forward
